ANTIOXIDANTNS IN SPORT NUTRITION – LITERATURE REVIEW

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2015, Vol 31, Issue 1

Abstract

The desire for enhancing body's natural capacity and preventing it from negative consequences as a result of intense physical trainings have become one of the reasons why athletes and physically active people administer different types of dietary supplements. Besides the scientifically proven supplements and the ones that do not show the beneficial effects, there are some preparations, whose impact of the body remains unclear. In particular, group B sport supplements, which is classified by the Australian Institute of Sport, includes antioxidant preparations and there is only limited scientific evidence, associated with their efficiency. This work presents the mechanisms of action, the role of pro- and antioxidant substances in people with increased physical activity and the review of studies investigating the effect of antioxi-dant compounds on exercise capacity.
