Conceptual approaches for the organization of Ukrzaliznytsya transport communication networks

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to consider methods for creating highly reliable multiservice transport communication networks in Ukrzaliznytsya. When planning the creation of next-generation networks, operators have already made significant investments in SDH equipment, so switching to other technologies requires new significant investments.Currently there is a trend towards switching to packet data transmission. The construction of a completely new transport network has a high cost, and the resources of SDH networks are not entirely used.The proposed method can be implemented on existing SDH networks. The improvement of Ukrzaliznytsya departmental transport SDH networks with the new generation of the synchronous digital hierarchy technology NGSDH is proposed, which will solve almost the same tasks as ATM or MPLS in packet switched networks, but without fundamental reconstruction of networks, and the use of WDM wave multiplexing technology is also proposed.Thus, the most optimal solution is to upgrade existing SDH networks and turn them into a next-generation SDH network - NGSDH. The use of WDM technology allows greatly increase the bandwidth of fiber-optic communication lines without laying new cables and installing new equipment on each fiber.Modernization of existing SDH networks and application of WDM networks is currently the optimal solution for expanding the capabilities of transport networks with a significant increase in traffic. On the departmental networks of Ukrzaliznytsya, an integrated (multiservice) communication network based on IP-technology has been built and is successfully operated on the Kiev-Mironovka section of the South-Western Railway.
