Abstract

Hurrian locals that shaped the civilization history of Anatolia were accepted as the host of the great state, founded on the Transcaucasian and Eastern Anatolian border line, towards the mid-second millennium B.C. by Mittanni. Hurrians had existed as small kingdoms as of the early-second millennium B.C. towards mid-second millennium B.C. Mittanies, coming through a migration flow of Indian-European/Aryan origin, tried to dominate the Hurrian territories. A blended community, where the majority of citizens were Hurrian and the ruling class was Mittanian, emerged. However, Mittani Country of this blended community became a major political power towards the second half of the 16th century B.C. King Tušratta/Tushratta, who succeeded to the crown at his early ages as the king of this great political entity, was regarded as the contemporary of Hittite King Suppiluliuma I and Egyptian King Amenhotep III (Amenophis III). In this study, it is aimed to generally analyze in the perspective of marriages realized with political concerns Tushratta’s letters sent to Amenhotep III and IV.
