Journal Title: Przegląd Historyczno-Oświatowy - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue 3
Abstract
In 2013, one hundred years have passed since the first Polish issue of Maria Montessori (1870-1952) "Children's House", which so far was the only item that went through translations and editions in Poland. The course of the reception system in the world was connected with historical events, as well as socio-political ones. In Poland in the years 1912 - 1939 there have been some attempts to become acquainted with the assumptions of her pedagogy, to publish reviews of her books, to analyze its achievements and, of course, to evaluate them for their application in practice. World War II and the political changes in Poland after 1945 stopped all the possibilities of a broader knowledge of many (at this time innovative) methods of working with children in preschool and elementary education well developing in Western Europe. It was not until 1989, that gradually introduced changes in education opened many educators, both theoreticians and practitioners, access to the scientific achievements of Western Europe as well as the application of "new" solutions in practice. The aim of the study is to show the development and application of educational system of Maria Montessori in the Polish educational institutions in the years 1912 - 2015 in the context of socio-cultural changes.
