THE EFFECT OF THE FRICTION OF THE REFUSE INSIDE THE REFUSE COLLECTION VEHICLE BODY ON THE WORKING PARAMETERS OF THE COMPACTION MECHANISM

Abstract

The compaction mechanism in refuse collection vehicle (RCV) has two functions. In the first step, it compacts collected refuse and then transports them inside the body. The knowledge of the physical properties of the refuse, including friction, may strongly affect the RCV efficiency. A methodology of determining refuse friction resistance coefficient inside the RCV body was developed. The result was implemented in a RCV working in real conditions. Thanks to the position of the RCV mechanisms and hydraulic pressure measurement, the characteristic for each refuse type parameter was specified. Using this value in a compaction mechanism control algorithm increased its efficiency significantly. Characteristics of the friction resistance coefficient showing the differences between different refuse types are presented in the paper. It describes the developed methodology, its evaluation, and limitations.
