THE INFLUENCE OF A UNIT LOAD ON THE STATIC FRICTION COEFFICIENT VALUE OF SELECTED METAL– –POLYMER FRICTION PAIRS
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2014, Vol 256, Issue 4
Abstract
The main goal of the experiments was to determine the value of a static friction coefficient for particular friction pairs. Each friction couple consists of a plastic sample and a steel countersample. Pairs of materials that were chosen for the tests are ones most frequently used for friction nodes in machine design and many another branches of industry. Understanding and ability to influence the value of COF allow the reduction of energy losses and the design of more robust products. This article contains the results of studies and the description of a static friction coefficient μ0 testing procedure. The selected plastics were PEEK, PEEK BG, PA 6, PE-UHMW, POM, POM + 40GF, POM + 10% PTFE, PTFE, PTFE +40% Bronze, PET and PSU (as a group of materials commonly used for bearings, guides and gaskets etc.); and during the investigations, they rubbed together with steels C45, Hardox 500, and AISI 316L. Each test consists in an induction of reciprocating movement between the friction pair pin-plate-type. The experiment assumed that the value of a steel element surface roughness and the rest time between the cycles are constant. Characteristics describing the dependence between the static friction coefficient and the unit pressure (of range 0.1 – 3.0 MPa) were prepared for all selected rubbing pairs. The results clearly indicate a meaningful influence of unit pressure on the value of static COF.

TRIBOELECTRIC PHENOMENA DURING FRICTION WITH DIAMOND-LIKE CARBON COATINGS
The paper presents the results of tribological studies concerning elements with DLC coatings. Steel, whose properties are relatively well known, was used as the reference material. The aim of the analysis was to determin...
CHANGES IN THE MICROSTRUCTURE OF IRON BASED ALLOYS DURING TRIBOLOGICAL CONTACT WITH STEEL HEATED TO THE AUSTENITE RANGE
Hot forming of steel (including forging) is most often performed in the austenite region. Because of that, tribological properties of tools used in hot processing should be related to the conditions of their contact with...
THE APPLICATION OF THE ROUGH SETS THEORY FOR THE ANALYSIS OF SURFACE ROUGHNESS FACTORS INFLUENCING SURFACE FATIGUE LIFE
Fatigue wear is a kind of wear when the local loss of cohesion and subsequent material decrements are caused by material fatigue in the effect of cyclic action of contact stresses in surface layers of joint friction elem...
