THE UKRAINIAN COMMITTEE OF DIALECTIC STUDY OF HISTORICAL MATERIAL SOURCES: THE NON-INCARNATE PROJECT OF METHODOLOGICAL REORGANIZATION OF THE ALL-UKRAINIAN ARCHAEOLOGICAL COMMITTEE OF THE ALL-UKRAINIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

Abstract

The policy in the science, education and culture field determine forms of science organization, names of institutions, their structures and staff. The beginning of the 1930s for the Ukrainian humanities became the stage of edged politicization, realization of tough party-ideological control over the intellectual community, implementation of significant effective forms and persecution ways and destruction of “hostile ideas for Bolshevism” and bearers of these ideas – intellectuals. The implanting of the “dogmatic Marxism-Leninism approach” and the elimination of the national positivism paradigm were accompanied by looking for new organizational forms, institutional experiments, reorganizations of the museums, educational and academic institutions. For the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (VUAN) and its components, these transformations were carried out by numerous restructurings. The article deals with the “old” Academy representatives’ attempts, under the ideological pressure of circumstances, criticism and self-criticism, to reform the work and create new organizational forms for the one of leading archaeological institutions in the Ukrainian SSR – the All-Ukrainian Archaeological Committee. The author introduces Petro Kurinnyi’s proposition concerning an establishment of the Ukrainian Committee of Dialectic Study of Historical Material Sources of the VUAN for scientific use. The goal of the proposed structural changes, ways of achieving the ideological tasks of the Committee, justification of the names of the reformed institution, so-called “brigade-shop” principles of work, perspectives of further institutional transformation of the Committee into the Institute/Academy, membership principles of the UkrDZhI are defined. It’s emphasized that the offers for reorganization stated by an academic secretary of the VUAK, were up to the times, abundant with ideologemes, censured the “pure” archeology and had to transform the forms of research the history of material culture within the Academy. However, the Petro Kurinnyi’s restructuration project didn’t get further development, presumably, due to the “undesirability” of the author as a representative of the “old” Academy, which was physically destroyed by the Soviet authorities soon.
