10. PHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSE OF COTTON GENOTYPES (GOSSYPIUM HIRSUTUM L.) FOR THERMOTOLERANCE UNDER CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS by SHYAMALA_ P AND C.N.CHANDRASEKHAR°

Journal Title: Life Sciences Leaflets - Year 2016, Vol 71, Issue

Abstract

The present study was aimed to screen four cotton genotypes (IC 78761, IC 356874, IC 356527, IC 356570,) for heat stress tolerance at flowering and boll formation stages under controlled condition. The accessions IC 78761 and IC 356874 were found to be tolerant followed by accessions IC 356527 and IC 356570 observed to be susceptible based on gas exchange and yield characters. IC 78761 and IC 356874 recorded higher sympodial branches and photosynthetic rate compared to other genotypes. This conforms that these physiological traits can be used to screen cotton genotypes for thermotolerance under controlled conditions.
