Abstract
The present study was conducted in five talukas [viz., (i) Anand, (ii) Anklav, (iii) Borsad, (iv) Khambhat and (v) Sojitra] of Anand district in Gujarat state, India during January-2014 to December-2014, drawing a sample of 100 respondents after obtaining informed consent to ascertain the adoption of package of practices of dairy farming. Six major areas of dairy farming, viz., (i) General management, (ii) Feeding and watering, (iii) Calf rearing, (iv) Clean milk production and (vi) Healthcare practices selected for the study and ranked accordingly. The overall adoption per cent observed was 73.33 per cent. Furthermore, the adoption hierarchy study revealed that adoption regarding health care practices ranked I with 84.30% followed by calf rearing practices as rank II with 76.60%, general management practices as rank III with 72.60%, feeding and watering practices as rank IV with 70.00%, clean milk production practices as rank V with 69.00% and breeding practices as rank VI with 67.50%. The data provides new insights on the level of adoption of practices among dairy farmers in five different localities of Gujarat state which will aid in general healthcare and management practices for dairy animals as well as provide baseline data for future researchers.
