A case of gliosarcoma: what is new?

Abstract
Gliosarcoma is a rare biphasic subtype of glioblastoma, with alternating glial and mesenchymal differentiation. It is highly malignant WHO grade IV tumour with poor prognosis. It resembles meningioma radiologically due to well circumscription and tendency of dural attachment. Despite their bimorphic histology, genetic studies of Gliosarcoma cases suggest molecular profile similar to glioblastoma, but also a monoclonal histogenesis for the glial and sarcomatous elements because of similar genetic aberration. We report a case of Gliosarcoma in a 55 year female, confirmed by H& E, special stain &Immunohistochemistry (IHC). The aim of this case report is to increase the awareness of about this entity, as Gliosarcomas are rare variant of Glioblastoma & diagnosing it is a challenging task as it can be mistaken for metastatic carcinoma, primary sarcoma or poorly differentiated high grade malignant neoplasm.
