Journal Title: Ege Tıp Dergisi - Year 2017, Vol 56, Issue 4

Abstract

Spinal accessory nerve (SAN) which is the 11. cranial nerve, provides motor innervation of the trapezius muscle. Shoulder pain, muscle weakness and winged scapula can be developed in patients with SAN injury. Winged scapula which is caused by SAN damage is rare. The diagnosis is confirmed with electromyography (EMG), ultrasonography (USG) can be referenced in terms of differential diagnosis and additional pathologies. In recent years, because of being non-invasive, inexpensive, user-friendliness method, the use of USG is increasing to view of the peripheral nerves. Herein, a patient with winged scapula who was employed as a making ironing was discussed by the EMG and USG findings.
