A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE INSECTICIDAL PROPERTIES OF MORINDA CITRIFOLIA, ALLIUM SATIVUM, ALLIUM CEPA AND PSIDIUM GUAJAVA AQUEOUS PLANT EXTRACT on Solenopsis geminate
Journal Title: WORLD JOURNAL PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE - Year 2019, Vol 8, Issue 9
Abstract
The insecticidal activity (morbidity and mortality) of four aqueous extracts: noni, onion, garlic and guava on Solenopsis geminata were investigated over a 72 hours period. The noni, onion, garlic and guava concentration of (0.1g/cm3) showed 100% morbidity on Solenopsis geminata, whereas the guava extract at (0.1g/cm3) showed morbidity that range from 20% to 60%. When the concentration of the Aqueous extract was decreased to 0.05 g/cm3, noni, onion and garlic aqueous extract showed 100% morbidity, with the exception of noni at 12 hours, which showed 86.67% morbidity. The guava extract showed morbidity that range from 6.67 to 40%. The reference compound Baygon, showed 0% morbidity, whereas the control compound showed 100% morbidity. When the noni, onion, garlic and guava extract at a concentration of (1g/cm3) were administered to Solenopsis geminata, 100% mortality were observed for noni, onion and garlic extract. However, for the guava extract, mortality in the range of (20 to 40%) was induced. When the noni concentration was reduced (0.5g/cm3), 100% mortality was induced on Solenopsis geminata. An exception being 46.67% and 73.33% mortality induced by the noni extract after 12 hours and 24 hours of administration respectively. The guava extract induced mortality in the range 6.67 to 40.0%. The reference compound Baygon, also induced 100% mortality whereas the control exhibit 0% mortality.
