A Comparison of Students’ Performance: An Application of Hotelling’s
Journal Title: Scholars Journal of Physics, Mathematics and Statistics - Year 2016, Vol 3, Issue 4
Abstract
This paper examined the equality of the performance of two sets of students: those who graduated in 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 academic sessions from the Department of Statistics, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Nigeria, based on their scores in the same eight courses which both sets offered during their second semester HND II. Hotelling’s was applied to the data. The analysis and tests showed there is a significant difference in performance between the two sets. A Roy-Bose simultaneous confidence interval was used to identify the mean vectors that contributed to the rejection of the null hypothesis. The result showed in general that students who graduated in 2012/2013 academic session performed better than those who graduated in 2013/2014 academic session.

Observation on the Binary Quadratic Equation 3x2-8xy+3y2+2x+2y+6=0
The binary quadratic equation is studied for its non-trivial integral solutions. The recurrence relations satisfied by the solutions x and y are given. A few interesting properties among the solutions are presented.
Adaptive Learning Rate SGD AlgorithmforSVM
Stochastic gradient descent (SGD) is a simple and effective algorithm for solving the optimization problem of support vector machine, where each iteration operates on a single training example. The run-time of SGD does n...
Efficiency Evaluation of the Two-Stage Units Using Two-Objective Linear Fractional Programming
Data envelopment analysis (DEA)is a method that evaluates the efficiency of decision making units by the linear programming problems. The decision making units have multiple input and outputs. Some of the decision making...
Proportion Test of Shale Similar Materials
Due to the unconventional reservoir core is difficult to obtain in great quantities, in order to do more groups of experiments for crack propagation law, need to be processed similar material specimen experiment. On the...
Lattice Points on the Homogeneous Cone 8(x^2+y^2 )-15xy=56z^2
The ternary quadratic equation 8(x^2+y^2 )-15xy=56z^2 representing a cone is analysed for its non-zero distinct integer points on it. Employing the integer solutions, a few interesting relations between the solutions and...
