A mathematical model for groundwater resources assessment in the area of the Wrocław water intake with induced infiltration

Journal Title: Biuletyn Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego - Year 2008, Vol 431, Issue 431

Abstract

The water intake with induced infiltration for the city of Wrocław is based on surface waters from the Oława river. For groundwater capture, 558 wells were constructed along Oława, Odra and 63 infiltration ponds. Currently, groundwater is captured by 488 wells. For groundwater resources assessment, the “local” and “site” groundwater flow models were developed for the areas of 117 km[sup]2 [/sup]and 40 km[sup]2[/sup], respectively. The total water resources in the area of the Wrocław water intake, regarded as total groundwater and surface water available for use, were estimated at 590,454 m[sup]3[/sup]/d. The natural groundwater resources were estimated at 15,894 m[sup]3[/sup]/d. It is 2.7% of the total water resources of the water intake.
