A NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF FLUID-STRUCTURE INTERACTION PROBLEMS BY A MESH-FREE METHOD
Journal Title: ROMANIAN JOURNAL OF TECHNICAL SCIENCES - APPLIED MECHANICS - Year 2010, Vol 55, Issue 2
Abstract
The solving of fluid-structure interaction problems are traditionally based on arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian formulations in which moving grids are used. However, for problems with large deformations, moving material interfaces, deformable boundaries and free surfaces these methods can encounter severe difficulties. The mesh-free method is advantageous in this situation. In this paper, we present a mesh-free Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics type method for the numerical simulation of the fluid flow, which can be easily integrated into a fluid-structure interaction solver. The focus in this work is on the mathematical aspects concerning the construction of the fluid particles and development of the discretized governing equations and on the boundary condition enforcement. Numerical results are presented for a shock tube closed at the left end by an elastically supported piston.

SOME CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING THE FATIGUE CRACKS PRODUCING PITTING WEAR OF GEARS
In this article some aspects of the fatigue cracks that have the consequence of pitting wear appearance on the spur gears are presented. The main mechanisms leading to the fatigue cracks, crack nucleation, propagation of...
A NATURAL SONIC COMPOSITE – THE ATMOSPHERE
The atmosphere represents a natural sonic composite exhibiting the full band-gaps and localized modes around inhomogeneities given by the wind-velocity jumps. The paper analyses a barometric model including inhomogeneiti...

A VIRTUAL INTERNAL BOND MODEL FOR HYSTERETIC MEDIA
In this paper, the properties of the hysteretic media are investigated via the virtual internal bond model (VIB) derived from the hyperelasticity with the integration of the 6–12 Lennard-Jones atomic interacting potentia...
