A QUALITATIVE STUDY on the HISTORY PERCEPTION of TURKISH WOMEN in AMASYA

Abstract
The world conditions, the problems aroused and the sought for the solution to these problems made human to benefit from the experiences that they have had up to now. Such a need yielded the birth of the science of history. History education helps people to know their cultural heritage and their past and in this way they develop identity. The influence of the mother who contributed to the growth of the individual in the first step of the education in the acquisition of this identity is important. The purpose of this study is to investigate the history perception of Turkish women who play a great key role throughout history. The Turkish women as working mothers and housewives make feel their functional existance at every level in the society and they have responsibility as mothers. As a result, they contribute to transfer values and experiences to the new generation. This study was carried by using qualitative method and it provided the sensitiveness of the Turkish women towards history and concious. The working group constitutes 13 people from housewives, employees and women over 60 years living in Amasya through maximum diversity sampling from purposeful sampling methods. The participants were determined by voulantarily. The obtained data was analysed by using NVivo qualitative data analysing program. At the end of the study, women especially the mothers help their children know their history and the importance of knowing history in their lives.
