A rapid HPLC method for the determination of sulphonamides and trimethoprim in feed premixes
Journal Title: Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 23, Issue 2
Abstract
simple HPLC method for the simultaneous determination of sulphadimidine, sulphadiazine, sulphamethoxazole and trimethoprim antibiotics in medicated feeds has been developed, validated, and applied to commercial feed premixes. Ultrasound-assisted extraction was used for the recovery of the studied antibiotics without the need for a further clean-up step. The sulphonamides and trimethoprim were separated on a Symmetry C18 (5 μm, 4.6 × 250 mm) column using 10-min isocratic elution and UV detection at 254 nm. The results showed that the method is robust with adequate recovery (minimum 95.19%), satisfactory repeatability (1.39%–2.69%) and intermediate precision (1.36%–4.16%), as shown by the validation assessment herein. The advantages of the proposed method are the speed, the ease of the clean-up protocol, and the low cost of the needed instrumentation, rendering it highly applicable to the feed industry.

Entropy analysis of performance test results of warmblood stallions
The objective of the present study was to evaluate relationships among recorded traits in a 100-day stationary performance test in warmblood stallions in Poland. The possibility of reducing the number of recorded traits...
Response of Shami goats and kids to variable levels of soyabean or sunflower oils in diets
A study was conducted to determine the effect of feeding soyabean or sunflower oil to lactating Shami goats on milk production, composition and fatty acid profile. Goats (n=125), 2 to 4 years of age and 55 to 60 kg livew...
Dietary linseed oil and selenate affect the concentration of fatty acids and selenium in the spleen, pancreas, and kidneys of lambs
The purpose of the investigation was to determine the short-term influence of the addition of linseed oil (LO) and Se as selenate (SeVI) on the concentration of fatty acids (FA), especially conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)...
Does central IL-1β affect GnRH secretion in the hypothalamus of anoestrous ewes via different regulatory pathways?
The study was designed to identify the central pathways through which central interleukin-1β (IL-1β) affects gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) release in anoestrous ewes. Our results show that intracerebroventricular...
The effect of genetically modified feeds on productivity, milk composition, serum metabolite profiles and transfer of tDNA into milk of cows
The experiment was performed to determine whether transgenic maize containing the Bt gene (MON 810) and soyabean meal produced from glyphosate-tolerant plants (Roundup Ready, MON 40-3-2) compared with nontransgenic plant...
