A RESEARCH ON DETERMINATION AND ANALYSIS OF OBSTACLES AND PRACTICES OF INNOVATION IN SMES

Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to determine the types of innovation applications in businesses and the barriers to be encountered for the application types of innovation. For this purpose, a study was held in companies that operating in manufacturing industry in Gaziantep province in Turkey. Recently, the concept of innovation has become increasingly important as a determinant of competition in businesses. Depending on this situation, it becomes more popular among researchers. Emerging developments in technology, product variety and uncertainty of customer demands cause organizations to think uniquely and develop continuously different strategies. In order to maintain a sustainable competitive advantage in the market, it is seen as a necessity to develop product, process, marketing and value-added innovation types in the structural (such as human and organizational structure) fields. However, businesses that try to innovate encounter some barriers. These barriers arise both from internal and external environments of the business. In this context, barriers that business encounter in their innovation applications and the solutions in order to overcome the barriers are examined in detail.
