Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease affecting weightbearing joints usually seen in the elderly people and the people who do excessive physical deeds. Ayurveda explains many bahyaparimarjana chikitsa (external therapies) for Sandhigata vata like Daha, Sweda, Sneha and Upanaha. Upanaha sweda or poultice application is one of the treatments described in the management of Sandhigata vata and inflammatory swelling. Pain management is one of the emerging areas of research and development in Ayurveda.
