Journal Title: Management in Sanatate - Year 2017, Vol 21, Issue 1

Abstract

BACKGROUND: A scoping review was conducted to report the extent of literature available in the area of supplementary immunization activities and surveillance in the benefit of measles elimination and epidemic control. Data extraction is then conducted from the tabulated literature of information regarding policies and programs that warrant further investigation in the benefit of improving and modifying Romanian health policies to achieve targets of measles elimination. METHODS: The review was completed by using the York methodology for performing a scoping review from the University of York in England. Peer reviewed and grey literature databases were searched alongside specific websites and reference lists. Literature selection was performed by two independent reviewers. RESULTS: The following categorical areas were determined: evidence of effectiveness, ethical considerations, improvement strategies, methods and stakeholder views. In total 1,211 articles were discovered using database searching methods of which 128 were included for charting alongside 19 other articles from other sources to total 147 articles for inclusion in the scoping review. CONCLUSIONS: This scoping review provides direction for possible further research of policies and campaigns useful in achieving measles epidemic control and elimination. Highlighted are the utility of active surveillance programs, health promotion and modification of health policies in fostering more effective supplementary immunization activities.
