A STUDY OF GESTATIONAL DIABETES MELLITUS AND ITS TOMATERNAL OUTCOME IN VSSIMSAR,BURLA

Abstract
BACKGROUND : Gestational diabetes mellitus is defined as carbohydrate intolerance of variable severity with onset or first recognition during the present pregnancy. OBJECTIVES :To assess the fetomaternal outcome of pregnancy in mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). MATERIALS & METHODS: A study, conducted in 100 patients, where 50 were normal pregnant women and 50 pregnant women with GDM , was carried out in the department of obstetrics & gynecology of VSSIMSAR BURLA , over a period of 2 years . RESULTS: Increasing age(31±5.5years) of patient was associated with GDM. Preterm deliveries were more common among GDM cases (83%).IUGR and gestational hypertension are present in 71 % & 67 % of GDM cases. CONCLUSION: Early detection of GDM and treatment would reduce fetomaternal mortality and morbidity.
