Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Surgery - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 3
Abstract
Background: Sacro-Coccygeal pilonidal sinus is a common disease of the adult age group, especially male population, causing significant morbidity from both disease and surgery done for the same. It is essentially a cleavage between the buttocks (i.e., natal cleft), and diagnosis is made by identifying the epithelialized follicle opening (i.e., sinus) Aims and Objectives: Study of Role of Limberg Flap for Sacro-Coccygeal Pilonidal Sinus. Materials and Methods: After The Approval of Ethical Committee, This study was conducted at the surgery departments Of the Tertiary health care center from March 2013 to April 2015. Total 62 Patients who were having complains for recurrent pilonidal were selected for the study while those patients who didn’t given consent and were having terminally ill, severe immune-compromised status were excluded from the study. Here the Patients were randomly divided into the (Limberg flap) Group A and KF group (Karydakis flap) Group B two different treatment groups. All patients were prospectively evaluated in terms of gender and age, postoperative length of hospital stay, postoperative complications ;wound dehiscence, infection, hematoma, and recurrence. Result: Except the Average age which was comparable to each other i.e. 48 ±1.5 Yrs. And 49±2.1 Yrs. All other Characteristics like Average Duration of Operation (min) was 45± 2.5 and 50.2±1.45 ; VAS (Pain Score) 3±1.5 and 5± 2.5 ; Healing (Days) 7± 1.1 and 9±3.4; Duration of hospitalization(Days) 6± 2.3 and 8±2.4 was significantly Less in Group A as compared to Group B.( P<0.001) Overall the Complications like Wound infection was more in Group B i.e. 22.58% as compared to 9.67% in Group A ; Also Flap edema 29.03% and 16.12 %; Hematoma-38.70% and 25.80% ; Wound dehiscence -25.80% and 12.90% ; Recurrence-19.35% and 6.45% Respectively in Group B and Group A. Conclusion: From our study it was Observed that Limberg Flap technique was superior than Karydakis flap technique with respect to less -Average Duration of Operation, VAS, Healing, Duration of hospitalization and Less complications like Flap edema, Hematoma, Wound dehiscence, Recurrence.
