A TYPICAL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS – A NEW METHOD FOR LASER MICROWELDING
Journal Title: Proceedings of Electrotechnical Institute Prace Instytutu Elektrotechniki - Year 2012, Vol 59, Issue 259
Abstract
The quality of electrical permanent connections is invariably crucial constant factor in the reliability of electronic and electrical devices. The problem of failures concerns both the joints obtained by using conventional technology for connecting elements with dimensions on the millimeter scale or larger scale (soldering and welding), and a technology developed for the inner assembly of integrated circuits and large-scale integration of MEMS and MOEMS. Development of new solutions of manufacturing technologies in the field of connections encounters the biggest problems in case of connecting the elements of different geometry and dimensions. The same problem arises in case of joints made of materials not susceptible to the technological process. The article presents the solution to the problems occurring during connecting stranded wires from resistive or non-solderable materials (eg KANTHAL, alloy 46). A method for laser welding of thin stranded wires (up to 500 wires with a diameter of several micrometers), from materials susceptible to soldering is presented in the article. Among others it is used to attach conducting wires from the alloy 46 to the leads of IC micro-chip pins of the SMD type.
