Abstract

In recent years, the word stress is becoming an important element of linguistic researchers. There are a lot of accentual problems, such as the accent position in the word, its modulations in consequence of the word-formation and inflection, also the reasons for choosing the setting of stress, the accent types, and so on. In the modern Slavic accentology problems that cover different levels of language that are of interest to many linguists. Word stress builds up the sound image of a word; it shapes a word by making syllable(s) more prominent than the others. This organizing function is called constitutive. The culminative function is used to emphasize the idea that the stressed syllable constitutes the culmination point in a word. Also the stress helps the listener to recognize the word in the flow of speech, and this is identifying function. The main purpose of this paper is to give the relevant historical background of the word accent formation. Furthermore, the comparing analysis was proved that in the majority of cases such accentual differences were not erroneous
