ACCURACY OF COLOR DOPPLER IMAGING (CDI) VERSUS GREY SCALE SONOGRAPHY FOR DIAGNOSIS OF DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS (DVT) IN PAKISTANI POPULATION
Journal Title: International Journal of Medical Science and Diagnosis Research (IJMSDR) - Year 2018, Vol 2, Issue 6
Abstract
Objective: General objective is to assess the accuracy of color Doppler imaging in the diagnosis of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) to accurately diagnose Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) in patients who presented with clinical symptoms and signs of deep vein thrombosis of lower limb. Material and Methods: The study was carried out in Afro-Asian Institute 74, Westwood colony, Lahore & Gilani Ultrasound Centre, Ferozpur Road, Lahore Pakistan from January 2015 to June 2016. Subjects and methods of the study included two hundred patients, who presented with clinical symptoms and signs of deep venous thrombosis of the lower limb were selected. Result: In this study, the DVT was present in 67 (33.5%) patients while DVT was absent in 133 (66.5%) patients. Among the patients having positive DVT 39 (58.2%) were females while 28(41.8%) were males. The patient in which DVT was absent the males were 41(30.8%) and females were 92(69.2%).The symptomatic presented limbs involvement showed that bilateral limbs involvement seen in 119 patients (59.5%), the left lower limb involvement in 46 patients (23.0%) and right lower limb involvement in 35 patients (17.5%). The right lower limb involvement was seen in 15 patients (22.4%), left lower limb involvement in 24 patients (35.8%) and both limbs involvement in 28 patients (41.8%). Doppler ultra sonography showed that acute DVT present in 56 patients and chronic DVT seen in 9 patients. Color Doppler imaging (CDI) compared with grayscale sonography findings showed sensitivity (94.02 %), specificity (97.74 %), positive predictive value (95.45 %), negative predictive value (97.01%) and accuracy (96.50%). Conclusion: The Present Study Concludes that (CDI) is a non-invasive, safe, efficient and current standard method as a stand-alone examination for routine clinical assessment of possible lower extremity DVT due to its high accuracy, low cost, availability and patient's tolerance, with acceptable reproducibility for the detection of DVT.
