ACHIEVEING WIDE HOLLYWOOD SMILE USING 'COMBINATION TECHNIQUE' IN SEVERE CROWDING CASES
Journal Title: INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ADVANCES IN ORTHOPAEDICS - Year 2018, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
With increased use of straight wire appliance with MBT prescription there is a decline in use of old bracket systems like that of Begg's brackets. Begg's brackets were once commonly used and were main stream of orthodontics. Easier tipping movements in the initial leveling and alignment phase in Begg's system were advantageous as there would be less strain on the anchor teeth and faster tooth movement. A combination of MBT 0.022” ceramic brackets with metal slots and selective use of Begg's bracket can be used in selected cases to reach the desired treatment goals in shorter duration of time. Since the friction in Begg's bracket is lesser as compared to SWA MBT 0.022” slots, the initial tooth movement becomes easier. Also the size of Begg's bracket is smaller as compared to ceramic brackets lined with metal slots. This can be a useful combination especially in cases of severe crowding where ideal initial placement of ceramic SWA bracket is not possible. This paper explains the concept and use of 'combination technique'
