Achievements and prospects of biological research of intervertebral disc degeneration in China
Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 6
Abstract
Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) represents the key pathological foundation of degenerative spinal diseases, which often results in low back pain, spinal stenosis and finally leads to mobility limitation and loss of movement in patients. It is of great significance to elucidate the key molecular pathological mechanism of IDD and develop the corresponding biological therapeutic approaches. In recent years, under the funding and support of a series of national projects, domestic researchers have made significant breakthroughs in the pathogenesis, intervention strategies, tissue engineering repair strategies, and other directions of IDD, providing new ideas and methods for clinical prevention and treatment of IDD. Combined with the research direction of the research group, this paper summarizes a series of achievements in the biological studies of IDD in China in recent years and looks forward to the future research directions that need to be focused on, so as to provide useful references for promoting the development of biological studies of IDD.
