Acute poisoning – clinical examination, poisoning scores
Journal Title: Postępy Nauk Medycznych - Year 2010, Vol 23, Issue 9
Abstract
Poisonings are a serious problem of contemporary medicine. Despite the progress in many medical areas, little has improved in the treatment of poisoned patients. They are pushed to the margins for many reasons. They often come from pathological families, being suicidal or crime victims. Their recovery is no spectacular achievement, and what is worse, they repeatedly return to hospital for the same reasons. Because of all that, physicians stay averse when treating the victims of poisonings. When examining them, starting from pre-hospital care, they are often negligent. Carelessness is there as early as the interview stage, then while securing the life maintaining functions and finally, treating the patients in Emergency Departments or Poisoning Departments that are still too few in Poland. It all leads to the prolonged time of treatment, worse efficiency and higher expenses.
