Abstract
Women enjoyed freedom like men safely from the beginning of the human civilization (about 500BC). But in the next thousand year position of women gradually deteriorated. After Independence of the India witnessed tremendous changes in the status of women in Indian society. Indian constitution ensures fundamental right of equality of sexes. But in this period of ‘globalization’ women have became unsafe in every step of life. We are imitating the Western culture but we have no clear concept to mixing it with our own culture. Today’s socio-economic condition has opened the door of liberalization, privatization. This cause directly affects the women security. So women and girl child trafficking has very much increased quickly from one state to another. In the same way rape, kidnapping, mental and physical harassment of women has also growing fast. At present, we have become modern by dress but not by healthy mind. First of all we have to change our mentality and arrange the proper counseling for the victim, punishment for culprit and rehabilitation for victim. Otherwise women’s right, women’s empowerment never become successful in our society. The objective of this paper is to focus on the present condition of women in Modern India.
