Age, Rank and Marital Status as Correlates of Alienation Among Indian Army Personnel

Abstract
The main purpose of the present study is to examine the effect of alienation on age, rank and marital status of Indian army personal. This may be helpful in reducing their level of feeling of alienation. The sample was 240 army personnel of Bareilly Banvasa, Delhi and Haldwani Cantt. The following seven (7) hypothesis were framed to test. 1. There would be a significant effect of age on alienation and the younger army personnel would differ significantly with elder army personnel in the matter of feeling of alienation. 2. There would be a significant effect of rank on alienation and the high rank army personnel would differ significantly with low rank army personnel in the matter of feeling of alienation. 3. There would be a significant effect of marital status on alienation and the married army personnel would differ-significantly with unmarried and forced bachelor army personnel in the matter of feeling of alienation. 4. There would be a significant effect of interaction of age and rank on alienation feeling of army personnel. 5. There would be a significant effect of Interaction of age and marital status on alienation feeling of army personnel. 6. There would be a significant effect of Interaction of rank and marital status on alienation feeling of army personnel. 7. There would be a significant effect of Interaction of age rank and marital status on alienation feeling of army personnel. A 2×2×3 factorial design was used to test the hypothesis measuring instrument were Hindi version of Dean’s alienation scale by Singh & Sinha (1987).
