Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study was to obtain weight loss in obese patients and see the effect of different frequencies of patient following. Methods: This study was performed by family physicians in 12 weeks. The study was planned to include three study groups consisting of 30 patients and a control group. Patients with body mass index of 30-40 were randomly allocated to three study groups where the following frequencies were one week, two weeks and four weeks. Physical examinations of the patients were performed and blood tests were performed before and after the study. Body mass index and body fat proportion was measured by a standard device. The patients were given a diet by the dietitian according to their individual properties. The patients recorded their food intake in a notebook. These were evaluated at follow up visit by a program the required feed-back was given to the patients. Results: The study started in August 2015 and ended in December 2015. A total of 94 patients were included. When the before and after study body mass index difference considered, there was statistically significant difference between the control group and the study groups. There was decrease in the body mass index of the study groups. The decrease in the body mass index mean value was 0.92 in the one week group, 0.53 in the two week group and 0.49 in the four week group. Conclusion: There was statistically significant decrease in the study groups’ body mass index mean values. Although the biggest decrease was in the one week group, there was no difference in the decrease of body mass index between the one week, two weeks and four weeks study groups.
