AKUMULACAJA AZOTU I FOSFORU W ORGANACH WYBRANYCH MAKROFITÓW W STREFIE FITOLITORALU STAWU MIEJSKIEGO
Journal Title: Słupskie Prace Biologiczne - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 14
Abstract
The paper presents the results of studies on the content of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds in water, bottom sediments and in the leaves, stems, rhizomes and roots of Mentha aquatica, Typha latifolia, Phragmites australis, Glyceria maxima, covering the shore of the city pond. The studies were conducted in the summer of 2016. Based on the data analysis, it was indicated that water of the studied city reservoir do not show an excessive concentration of compounds N and P, as follows from loading down of these components through the vegetation. In the bottom sediments revealed slightly higher nutrients than in the water. The test plant species accumulated the largest amount of nitrogen in the leaves, taking the values from 16448.3 mg/kg (G. maxima) to 28622.9 mg/kg (T. latifolia). In the case of phosphorus, the situation was more diverse. The largest quantities of P has been shown in stems of G. maxima (4985.2 mg/kg), rhizomes of T. latifolia (5717.9 mg/kg) and M. aquatica (5659.9 mg/kg), and in the leaves of P. australis (4320.9 mg/kg). Analyzed plant species accumulate in their organs significant amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus, often exceeding the physiological needs, that affects good physicochemical properties of water in the city pond. The studied vegetation provides an effective barrier against runoff of pollutants into for the aquatic ecosystem.
