Alber Gaudry as a philosopher of paleontology (to anniversary of 190 years from his birth)

Journal Title: Eminak - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 3

Abstract

The article reflects the philosophical views of the prominent French geologist and paleontologist Alber Gaudry to the problems of natural sciences, in particular, on the philosophical problems of paleontology. An author traces the motion of geological epochs and marks successive changes in them, although being obvious, but not radical in his view. It is shown as A. Gaudry asserted that paleontology did not succeed to open a single new class or even subclass of animals, because going back to primitive times the inspired nature in general looked like present. A. Gaudry did several correct conclusions, in particular, about duration of different periods of historical development of Earth. During a paleontology chronicle he also worked on the issue whether it is possible after fossils to define that for development of life from more subzero forms to higher the millions of years are necessary. What is more, A. Gaudry said that in an order to examine minerals of animals for the purpose of their origin, it is necessary to know about the processes of formation of siltages.
