Aleksander Sołżenicyn – kontynuator rosyjskiego renesansu kulturowego. Dialog pisarza z Siemionem Frankiem

Journal Title: Slavia Orientalis - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 4

Abstract

A. Solzhenitsyn is an heir to and a continuator of the ideas of the Russian religious and philosophical renaissance, a period of a great intellectual and spiritual boom in Russia at the turn of the 20th century. What confirms the hypothesis of the present paper is the fact that the writer recommences the discussion about the role of the Russian intelligence which was begun in the famous 1909 collection of essays Vekhi (Landmarks) and initiated by the most eminent representatives of “the Russian renaissance:” S. Bulgakov, S. Frank, N. Berdyaev and others. Another fact confirming the initial assumption is the consanguinity of ideas and the dialogue between Solzhenitsyn and Frank (a representative of the “renaissance” in Russia) in the Bakhtinian understanding of the phenomenon. The analysis of the main assumptions of Frank’s social philosophy and Solzhenitsyn’s journalistic works indicates convergence of topics and problems concerning the foundations of the society (of any society, including the Russian one). Both thinkers assume that the principles governing those communities are: the divine provenance of societies, self-restraint, duty, solidarity and commitment. What connects Frank and Solzhenitsyn – Christian writers – is the conviction that both the person (личность) as a moral being and the society as a spiritual being have the vocation to develop themselves in terms of ethics. The research into consanguinity of creativity and the intertextual dialogue between the writer and the philosopher open the way to reflections on how Solzhenitsyn was inspired by other representatives of the Russian philosophy, e.g. V. Solovyov, G. Fedotov, I. Ilyin.
