ALTERNATIVE LITERATURE TODAY

Abstract

The article stresses growth of alternative literature (Alt Lit) in all literary genres, styles and directions. Their integral feature is expression of the author’s point of view contrasting/denying the one generally accepted. Three directions of contemporary Alt Lit are specially discussed (the biblical, the radical and the subcultural), the same as “alternative of the form” – graphic novels and manga. Alternative literature, as has been shown, is the literature, the main difference of which from the mainstream and generally accepted standards is in unusual / unexpected content. The form in most cases is not affected. However, some researchers single out "an alternative of a form", i.e. shifting of the focus of the author and the reader from the text to the picture to it. The reader of alternative prose having as all homo sapiens, their own point of view on the surroundings, not always coinciding with the generally accepted, has to analyze, in fact, the correlation of three perspectives - the standard, the author's and his own. It is particularly difficult to separate them, evaluate and analyze for that reader who does not limit his acquaintance with a book only with lines, it is full, but is also attentive to the information remaining between the lines. To such readers who know how to decode and analyze what they read, must be, by definition, a philologist (from Gr. loving knowledge). We wish the young developing philologists to "skillfully" read poetry and prose, including alternative.
