An Avalanche is Coming

Abstract

Higher education has an unparalleled opportunity to influence and empower the next generation, and to build global leaders for the 21st century. Today, though, traditional 20thth century universities are not meeting this high bar. Simultaneously, the options for alternative education are growing: information is ubiquitous, the value of practical learning is rising and there is an increased willingness to consider alternative certifications. When faced with the rising cost and decreasing value of a university education one is forced to ask: What is the future role of the university? An Article presents five possible emerging models of higher education.
