An Evaluation of Individuals in the Process of Divorce Based on Social Assesment Reports: The Case of Adana Family Court

Abstract
The aim of this research is to evaluate the social assessment reports prepared on the children’s custody whose parents are in the divorce process. In the reports, there are professional individual interviews with the parents, who are the parties to the divorce, particular child, family members of the parents, and the professional opinions and evaluations of the justice assistance specialist, who prepares the report. In this research, which was designed with the qualitative research method within the framework of the document analysis model, 89 social assessment reports prepared with individual interviews with 295 people have been reviewed. According to the findings of the study, 76.61% of the children was able to define divorce and 73.39% of them was able to define what custody means in accordance with their age and developmental level. The reason for divorce for 56.74% of the parents is domestic violence. According to the evaluation of the mothers, 71.62% of the fathers inflict violence on the child, while according to the evaluation of the fathers, only 10.45% of the mothers inflict violence on the child. In 67.41% of the reports, custody was given to the mother and 21.35% to the father.
