An investigation on Intermediary Role of Self- Determined Needs in Relationship of Death Anxiety with Job Burnout in Emergency Staff

Abstract

Death anxiety is a pivotal topic in existential psychology. Researchers recently have attended to effect of death anxiety on the career extends. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediator role of self- determination needs in relationship between death anxiety and job burnout. This study accomplished by method of correlation, path analysis. The subjects were 213 Tehran medical emergency centers employees, which were selected by simple random sampling method. Following psychological tests were administered: Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI) by Deci and Ryan, questionnaires of Job Burnout Scale (MBI) by Maslach and Death Anxiety Inventory (DAS) by Templer. Procession and path-analysis of this study indicated a meaningful association between death anxiety and job burnout and self- determination needs as well. Path effect of death anxiety on the job burnout suggests that with 1 S.D change occurred in death anxiety, job burnout will change in versus direct. Our offered model contains all necessities of qualification, which expresses relative effect of self- determination needs in relationship with job burnout and death anxiety. Considering personal’ death anxiety and promoting the environment to meet personal’s self-determination needs will prevent of burnout in organization.
