An Online Research Study of the Social Network of Ukrainian Journals in Sociology

Abstract
The paper describes a study of the structure of interconnections between sociological journals published in Ukraine on the basis of citation indicators. For this purpose, network analysis methods have been used. A scientific journal is one of the main means of scientific communication, which has a network structure and an electronic format with open access. This allows studying the network of Ukrainian sociological journals that support (or able to support) communication between scholars who are contributors to these journals. Citation indicators were obtained from the website of V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine in April-May 2018 in accordance with the list of peer-reviewed scientific journals in Ukraine complied by the Ministry of Education and Science. The analysis of network data was conducted using UCINET software package; special attention was paid to such characteristics as prominence and cohesion. The online research data help to identify priority of Ukrainian sociological journals given by their contributors, and the scientific communications under study illustrate mechanisms of self-organisation of sociological community.
