Journal Title: Research Journal Social Sciences (Online) - Year 2016, Vol 5, Issue 2

Abstract

Pakistan is rich in agriculture sector, having food and non-food crops, but it has believed that its agricultural export is not up to the level of international standard. But there is not strong evidence for this concept empirically. To analysis the performance of the Pakistan’s exports in agriculture sector, specifically the exports of the products like fruits, vegetable, meat and cereals at aggregate level. In the study it has aimed to analysis the relative comparative advantage (RCA) of Pakistan for the exports of these products and also estimate the instability index of the production of these disaggregate commodities. Besides these analysis study has also aimed to discuss the pattern of the RCA of Pakistan with the major exporting countries of these products to measure the agriculture competitiveness of these products to the other countries. The annual time series data will be used since 1961 to 2016 and RCA index by measured by Balassa (1965) and Cuddy Della Valle Index for the instability test will be used for the analysis. Based on the findings, it has calculated that cereals and fruits & vegetable have comparative advantage in the exports and need to have such policies which can stabilise the exports trend of these agricultural products to maintain the level of growth.
