Analysis of active chlorine and pH concentration in samples of sodium hypochlorite 1%

Journal Title: RSBO - Year 2007, Vol 4, Issue 1

Abstract

The concentration of active chlorine and pH were analyzed in samples of sodium hypochlorite 1% derived from three different bottles. Samples were stored in three bottles: bottle “Pet 1”, “Pet 2” and “Pet 3”. One sample of each bottle was removed in the instant of opening the bottles (Time 0: T0). The other three samples (one of each bottle) have been exposed to the light and temperature during three hours and after that analyzed (Time 1: T1). The analysis of the results allowed to conclude that in all samples there was a decrease in the active chlorine concentration (T0JT1). The pH decreased from 12.00 to 11.50 (T0JT1) only samples deriving from bottle “Pet 1”. The active chlorine percentage didn’t correspond to the described on the bottles label.
