ANALYSIS OF FUNCTIONAL ASYMMETRY IN BASEBALL THROW WITH THE USAGE OF EMG

Abstract
[b]Background. [/b]The process of laterality is considered to be one of the motor deve lopment aspect. Most of researches define the degree of diversity between such organs as eye, ear, arm, leg in the context of frequency and precision of the movement. These methods are complicated, debatable and the interpretation of the results are not always explicit. EMG recording and video recording facilitate the analysis of existing differences, furthermore they correlate with the mistake description of the activity technique. This type of researchers can be used in prosthetics or rehabilitation after extremity amputation. The purpose of this researches was the trial to define functional asymmetry by means of EMG recording. [b]Material and methods.[/b] In this researches the author defines the disparity of muscle tone between upper extremities during baseball throw. The analysis of the EMG recording and the video recording from the camera with high frequency (250 cages/second) was used. Triceps muscle tone and pectoralis major, which has a significant participation in the moment of throwing, was put through an examination. The moment of baseball ball throwing, as well as the moment of the tightest muscle tone during the phase of throwing in the period of 0,5 seconds before and after throwing, was analysed.[b]Results.[/b] In case of pectoralis major, the muscle tone was much lesser as well as the diversity between right and left hand. The diverse image of the muscle tone between maximal tension and the tension in the moment of throwing, proves that there is a lack of interrelation between these elements. Percentage diversity of the left hand EMG signal to the right hand, shows the span from 55% to 76% in the maximal tension phase and from 27% to 93% in the throwing phase.[b]Conclusions. [/b]In baseball throw the moment of maximal muscle tone do not correspond with the moment of throwing the ball, whereas the disparity in functional asymmetry between both extremities is evident.
