Journal Title: International Journal of Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Studies (IJIMS) - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
The famous Bengali writer Ashapurna Devi in her writings not only presented the complexities of Bengali family life, society and women but also reveals the different shades of her child characters. Her short stories show how deeply she studied children. Generally, the term ‘child’ or ‘childhood’ is used in wider sense. The first eighteen years of life when a child remains completely dependent on his parent is considered as the childhood. Through the stages of infancy-childhood-adolescence a child moves towards the stage of maturity. Childhood is that stage when the children interact very closely to their parents as well as the other elders in their respective surroundings. The children are greatly influenced by their elder’s attitude, behaviour and mentality. In this article, an attempt is made to analyse the interactive relationship between the children and their elders in the selected short stories of Ashapurna Devi.
