Antenatal Screening for Group B Streptococci to Prevent Early Neonatal Sepsis
Journal Title: Scholars Journal of Applied Medical Sciences - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 11
Abstract
Abstract: Neonatal sepsis due to Group B Streptococcus (GBS) continues to be a major problem despite preventive strategies. The attack rate of neonatal GBS infection in India is approximately 1 per 1000 live births. However association of GBS colonisation with complicated labour has not been studied widely except a few reports. This study was carried out to detect GBS colonization in women during complicated labour and to document antibiotic susceptibility pattern of these isolates to prevent infections leading to unfavourable outcome in mothers and neonates. GBS colonisation was seen in women with complicated labour highlights the fact that further case control studies need to be done to associate the role of GBS colonisation with complicated labour.
