APPLICATION OF MATHEMATICAL MODELING TO DISTANCE AND INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION

Abstract

Purpose. To demonstrate the ways of improving distance learning on mathematics by extending application focus on its fundamental concepts. It is directed to promote the best assimilation of these mathematical abstractions by the students of technical specialties. Properly developed structure of the educational process can guarantee its success. The presentation form of educational information as well as the mechanism to regulate educational activities taken place at a technical university should address fundamental competences and skills required for professional areas. Methodology considers a visual representation of possible states of the technical object and formal logical methods of their presentation in the form of events and mathematical modeling of random processes. Results. Methodical support of students’ individual lesson in the course of "Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics" (section "Random Events") is pro-posed. A probabilistic experiment to predict the operational state of an electrical circuit, composed according to the scheme of a series-parallel connection of light bulbs, is considered. Detailed explanations are provided for the concepts and definitions of algebra of events on which the basic theorems of probability theory are formulated. In such a case, the potential to identify the events with sets has been used. Admissible combinations of technical states of light bulbs connected in parallel are presented in a visual form. Technical state of the entire electrical circuit including these combinations is described by applying the theory of sets. A mathematical model of the technical states of a series-parallel electrical circuit to ensure current flow under the conditions of a closed key and connected power source is developed. Practical value. Proposed presentation of a new material enhances students’ attention to distance learning and, importantly, promotes more conscious approach to assess the prospects of further applying mathematical model for engineering sciences. Any innovations in the methodology will not cancel the principle of visualization. Moreover, taking into account modern conditions, clear and simple approaches are required.
