Archaeology of the coastal area south of San Blas bay: Las Olas 11 site

Journal Title: Revista de Estudios Marítimos y Sociales - Year 2011, Vol 4, Issue 4

Abstract

An archaeological analysis is presented from site Las Olas11, located in the sea shore, south of Bahía San Blas, dated 2.890 ± 60 years BP. It comprises a combustion area, with a concentration of bones, shells and lithic artifacts as well as a surrounding area where there were recovered workshop activities remains. We present a detailed study of faunal remains as well as the lithic artifacts. The results support the hypothesis of a seasonal summer settlement for lithic raw material sourcing and the exploitation of sea lions providing information to the discussion about human coastal occupations.
