Abstract
To develop a family as a unit, no doubt, there is a great role of man as an authoritarian, but our society is considered male dominating society, where men usually use extra authority against the teachings of Islam and suppress woman. Due to the influence of Hindu culture and its acceptance, man is believed to have got more power for which he has created his own rules and regulations and a wife is considered as a slave. Marital rights are implemented on both husband and wife equally and both are accountable if commit any negligence in the adoption of rights and responsibilities. This study highlights the authority of man on woman and defines its limits for the smooth functioning of a family according to Islamic teachings. This is an analytical research and data is gathered from secondary sources. Data is gathered from secondary sources; books, articles and online sources. Islam bestows respect to woman as a wife. Man is responsible for the food and clothes of family. Man is one step higher in authority in order to run the affairs of family. However, on the other side, woman is not slave of man. According to the teachings and practical examples of Holy Prophet (PBUH); wife is respectable and should be treated with soft language and behavior. The ignorance from Islamic teachings and considering and treating woman as slave creates unrest in family system.
