ASPEKTS AND METHODS OF STUDY OF METONYMY IN MODERN LINGUISTICS

Abstract
The article deals with a broad understanding of metonymy. As part of this understanding metonymy includes traditional tropeical transfer items by contiguity, as well as the phenomenon of the attentional shift from one participant to the other, i. e. reprofiling. Not only the nominal values but also verbal ones are involved in the sphere of metonymy. Traditionally, metonymy was considered to be realized primarily in names. Recently metonymy began to be interpreted as a typical way of the verb meaning organizing. The article explains the value of various metonymy phenomena and reprofiling it for lexicographical practice. In addition, the author demonstrates that the separation of these concepts is effective for linguostylistic analysis of a literary text. To confirm this position the author gives detailed analysis of individual tropes of «Symphonies» by Andrei Bely.
