Assessing the Need for a Regional library Consortium: A Case Study in the Colleges of North Bengal

Abstract

The study aims to verify if a regional library consortium is developed among the colleges of North Bengal whether it would be helpful for the staff and users of these college libraries or not. This is done on the basis of the opinion of the users and staff of the colleges. The methods adopted were stratified random sampling for the selection of the colleges (50%), convenience method for selection of users (10%), structured questionnaires for interview; data are analyzed using Microsoft excel, hypothesis is tested against the interpreted data with Pearson’s χ2 test. The study is limited to general degree colleges and B.Ed. colleges of North Bengal. The study favours the formation of the proposed consortium.
