Assessment of Magnetic Resonance Imaging and arthroscopy outcomes in a tertiary care hospital

Abstract
Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the knee joint has frequently been regarded as a noninvasive unusual to diagnostic arthroscopy. In everyday clinical observations, the MRI scan is regularly used to sustain the analysis for meniscus or ligamentous tears earlier to recommending arthroscopic examination and surgery. This study aims to assess the MRI and arthroscopy outcomes. Aims and Objective: To assess the role of MRI in diagnosing and grading distressing ligamentous injuries of knee and associate with results arthroscopically. Methodology: 60 patients were subjected to 1.5T MR imaging followed by arthroscopy. Observations: Out of all patients 50 patients (83%) showed ACL tears, 40 patients (66 %) showed MM tears, 18 patients (30%) showed LM tears and 8 patients (13%) showed PCL tears. 24 patients (40%) had MCL injury and 12patients (20%) had LCL injury. Sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV and accuracy of MRI compared to Arthroscopy for complete and partial ACL, PCL, medial meniscal and lateral meniscal tear were determined. Conclusion: MRI is a positive, accurate and noninvasive modality, it is supposed to be done in all patients supposed of ligamentous injury. It has elevated sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the menisci and cruciate ligament tears.
